Things to do Around Thanet Well Lodge Retreat

The Thanet Well Lodge Retreat is located near Greystoke Forest in Penrith on the edge of the Lake District, with the many glorious natural wonders and visitor attractions which are on offer in this region within easy driving reach of the resort.

The Lakes & Natural Wonders

Coniston Water

The natural beauty of Coniston Water.

The Lakes can be easily accessed by car and the majority of popular tourist destinations take less than an hour to reach by car from Thanet Well Lodge Retreat.

There really is an abundance of natural splendour, all waiting for you to visit, from Coniston Water to the dizzy heights of Scafell Pike; with so much to see and do you’ll be spoilt for choice whilst on your holiday. Both of these attractions off scenic walking routes and are pet friendly locations. The Lake District really is a fantastic place to take a break if you are looking for pet friendly holidays.

Coniston Water is the third largest lake in the Lake District being five miles long and half a mile wide. It was famously the location where Sir Malcolm Campbell and his son Donald Campbell set numerous water speed records in the mid 20th century. It is the ideal location for adrenalin junkies, being a popular destination for kayaking and canoeing. Boats can be hired from the Lakeside at the Coniston Boating Centre.

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, with an elevation of 3,209 feet above sea level. This is one of the three peaks which are climbed as part of the National Three Peaks Challenge. It is a popular tourist attraction thanks to it is stunning views and the challenge which is represents.

Grasmere

Grasmere, Cumbria’s most popular village.

There is more to Cumbria than just the natural sights and Grasmere is one such place. Grasmere is widely regarded as Cumbria’s most popular village, it is only a 40 minute drive away from Thanet Well Lodge Retreat and located in the centre of the Lake District.

Nestling at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many shops, pubs and cafes. You can buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread from the village store or visit Wordsworth’s grave in the churchyard. The poet famously described Grasmere as being the “loveliest spot that man hath ever found” which is why he chose it as his final resting place.

If visiting Grasmere in the summer, why not be adventurous and hire a rowing boat to venture out onto the lake for a romantic trip? Rowing boats are available for hire 7 days per week between March and early November and offer you the chance to really see this glorious area from a different perspective.

If you are in search of things to do “closer to home” then the nearby Rheged Centre is a family entertainment and leisure complex that is billed as Cumbria’s leading family day out – with play areas, cinemas, events, shopping and all sorts of fun.

Looking for a family friendly pub to visit which offer good food, drink and a welcoming atmosphere? Then why not head into the village of Greystoke close to the resort and visit The Boot and Shoe, which is a 17th Century Coaching Inn.
