some of our favourite places to visit in the Lake District

The Lakes & Natural Wonders

Nature is waiting for you to explore, here in the Lake District. From Coniston Water to the dizzy heights of Scafell Pike; with so much to see and do you’ll be spoilt for choice on your holiday.

Coniston Water is the third-largest lake in the Lake District, at five miles long and half a mile wide. Ideal for adrenaline junkies, Coniston Water is a popular destination for kayaking and canoeing. Boats can also be hired from the Lakeside at the Coniston Boating Centre, for a truly immersive experience.

Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England, at over 3,000 feet above sea level. This is one of the three peaks which are climbed as part of the National Three Peaks Challenge. It’s a hugely popular tourist attraction thanks to its stunning views, but you’ll have to earn them – are you up for the challenge?!

If you’re looking to eat out locally, we recommend the lovely Clickham Inn or The Boot and Shoe Inn, both just a few miles away.

Grasmere village

Grasmere is widely regarded as Cumbria’s most popular village, and is only a 40-minute drive away from Thanet Well Lodge Retreat, located in the centre of the Lake District.

Nestled at the foot of some spectacular fells and with its own lake, this village has many independent shops, pubs and cafes. You can buy the legendary Grasmere Gingerbread from the village store or visit Wordsworth’s grave in the churchyard. The poet famously described Grasmere as being the “loveliest spot that man hath ever found” – and we might be biased, but we think he was onto something!

Visit Grasmere in the summer and hire a rowing boat out on the lake. Rowing boats are available for hire 7 days a week between March and early November, to let you see the nature around you in a whole new way.
