Golden Beaches & Natural Wonders
The nearby towns of Swanage, Studland and Lulworth offer a huge range of beaches with Swanage’s golden sandy beach, studlands’ stunning sand dunes and the chalky cliffs at Lulworth cove.
Swanage Beach is one of the highlights of the region, with its beautiful waters which have won numerous European blue flag awards.
Whilst exploring the rich environment that Dorset has to offer, be sure to keep an eye out for some of the rare birds and reptiles that have made Dorset their home. And perhaps you may even spot some of the fascinating marine life such as dolphins that have been known to live in the area.
Swanage & Local Attractions
Explore the nearby villages or bustling seaside resorts. Swanage itself is a town rich in history and architecture, and offers numerous shops and restaurants.
While you are near Swanage, you could get in touch with history by taking a ride on the steam train at the historic Swanage Railway. Here you can take in the atmosphere, enjoy a fine dining experience on the steam train or even drive one yourself.
Another must see attraction is Durlston Country Park which runs along the coastline of South Swanage. Here you can enjoy stunning coastal views along the walkways, admire the fascinating wildlife which includes countless migrant species of birds, or visit the spectacular Durlston Castle and Great Globe, both of which were restored by the council in 2011.
The market town of Wareham is also just a short 15 minute drive from our park, a picturesque town with some fantastic walking routes and high quality restaurants. Wareham is also home to the Rex Cinema, which regularly plays host to special film events and matinees for the whole family. Grab a drink to take in with you from the auditorium or sample some of the delicious local ice creams.
Wareham also has its own museum which houses various archaeological and pictorial collections. This includes a special section on Lawrence of Arabia who lived close to the region in Clouds Hill prior to his death.
Poole and its vibrant harbour with shops and restaurants, is a short distance away and is even home to the world famous Sunseeker Company, who produce multi-million pound yachts for the rich and famous. Sunseeker can count the likes of Simon Cowell and Jenson Button amongst their extensive customer profile. Why not head on down and see if you can view one of their latest masterpieces on its maiden voyage.
A popular family friendly attraction in Poole is Brownsea Island, which has a wide collection of wildlife including the rare red squirrel. This is a great destination for both adults and children, with there also being an outdoor play area and tree climbing trail to keep the kids entertained once the wildlife has been fully explored.
