Recommended Local Attractions
Just a short drive from Sandymouth is the town of Bude – a charming and friendly holiday destination offering a number of sparkling sandy beaches, interesting local shops, superb restaurants and traditional treats be it a tasty Cornish pasty or a classic cream tea.
This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to some of the best surfing spots in the country. Why not contact one of the many local surf schools to try this exhilarating sport or enjoy the number of other adrenalin packed activities accommodated by the diverse landscape.
If you are looking for something a little more tranquil, you could simply stroll along the stunning beaches of Bude which are home to clean golden sands, clear rock pools and rugged cliffs. There is also the Bude canal which is the perfect location for a leisurely stroll and is home to a nature reserve, family of Otters and one of only a few sea locks in the country.
Used by visitors and residents alike, boat hire, watersports, fishing & cycling can also be enjoyed on and around the canal.
Another popular destination with our holiday makers is the world famous Eden Project where you will find the largest indoor rainforest in the world, exotic plants from around the globe & cutting edge architecture with its stunning artificial biodomes. Another impressive piece of this architecture is the WEEE man, which is a 3.3 tonne structure that is designed to represent the electrical waste of the average British household over a lifetime.
It is not just all about plant life and architecture here though, with the attraction also being home to England’s longest Zip Wire for the adrenalin junkies amongst you.
While here you may also want to try out an al fresco style meal at the Mid Terrace Restaurant which is located in one of the biodomes. Here there are extensive breakfast, lunch and evening menus, with the primary focus being on Mediterranean dishes.
Visit the Doc’
Just down the coast lie quaint towns and villages such as Boscastle, where you can see the heart-warming rebuilding of the devastation caused by the 2004 floods. Tintagel is just a short drive from here and is a magical place, steeped in legend, and said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.
Famous for its part in the television series “Doc Martin” is the unspoilt fishing village of Port Isaac, also known as the fictional Port Wenn. Enjoy a stroll around the harbour and see if you can spot the many locations featured in the series. The slightly older among you may also be interested to know that most of the scenes in the 1970s TV show Poldark were also filmed here.
Other than its role on TV, Port Isaac is also a very active fishing village offering picturesque views and a relaxing environment.
Another nearby fishing village which is also worth a visit is Clovelly, which is famous for its donkeys and cobbled streets that tumble down past whitewashed cottages to the tiny working port.
