The Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway is a train enthusiasts dream and anyone at Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat is entitled to a 10% discount off the price of tickets attraction.

All you need to do in order to benefit from this discount is redeem a voucher which will be given to you in your arrival pack when purchasing your tickets from the main reception at the railway.

Here you will get the opportunity to jump on board one of the historic trains which are kept here including the River Irt Locomotive which was built over 100 years ago in 1894 and is now the oldest working 15 inch gauge locomotive in the world. It originally served at a Gretna munitions factory during the First World War but has been a feature at Ravenglass since 1917.

Another great nearby attraction is Keswick Museum which was named Museum of the Year at the 2015 Cumbria Life Culture Awards and Best Small Visitor Attraction at the Cumbria Tourism Awards in the same year.

Run by local volunteers, this museum gives you the opportunity to learn about the social, industrial and natural evolution of the region over the centuries and also showcases the works of local artists, writers and crafts people.

Fans of William Wordsworth will also be in for a treat, with the work of the poet on display alongside a range of other written materials. The archaeology section is particularly fascinating featuring a Roman collection and also items from the medieval period.

One which children are sure to love is the fantastic World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere where the author’s wonderful stories are brought to life.The museum is split into eight sections with each being devoted to a particular character or story.

Everything has been faithfully re-created ranging from the gooseberry bush where Peter Rabbit was caught by Mr. McGregor to Mrs Tiggy-Winkle’s kitchen which provides the perfect photo opportunity for small children. This is a fully interactive exhibit which is sure to have been the highlight of countless children’s holidays in the Lake District.

Another highly recommended attraction for children is Walby Farm Park which has its own indoor play barn featuring a huge ball pool, 24 foot slide and a separate play area for toddlers. Outside the complex, visitors will get the opportunity to meet the resident animals which are made up of rabbits, goats, and pony’s to name just a few.

If it is animals you are looking for, then you may also wish to visit the Lake District Wildlife Park which has over 100 species of animal including Meerkats, Zebras and even endangered animals such as Lemurs. Located just 10 minutes from Keswick Reach, you’ll also have the opportunity to take advantage of personal animal encounters where you can get face to face with the friendly animal residents in what is sure to be a fun day out for all of the family.
