Second time this year for a five day break, this last one at very short notice after being extremely let down on another site, not Darwin Escapes.
Staff and lodge were great again, will return very soon.
Just got back from our third visit this year, again had a great time although our Marple lodge was not to the usual standards, toaster damaged and only working one side, odour from wash basin in ensure shower room, just put the plug in after use to alleviate the smell as only there for a weekend, the sofa cushions were very badly stained and even when we turned them over they were bad, shame other users are not more careful. One thing that others have mentioned previously is that the window blinds above the beds are away from the wall and allow early morning daylight and night time external lighting to streame in. All reported to the team so should be sorted. Will still be returning but will avoid the Marple lodges.
Had a great few days at Hawkchurch, very nice lodge apart from height of tv made it difficult to watch for long, instructions for most things in back off welcome book except for the oven. Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Will return.
We have just returned from a long weekend in lodge 71 beautiful accommodation and surroundings first class spa. A birthday surprise from my husband and our first visit. Let down by cleaning/maintenance issues. Cobwebs on several ceilings spring broken on kitchen bin. Extract fans dirty. Slat missing on blind in lounge. Water stained skirting board in bathroom. Wall damaged and marked under tv in bedroom. All reported to reception. I have photographs if required. We will definitely stay again and hopefully issues will be addressed.
My brother-in-law booked a table for six last night (20th Feb) and the whole experience was totally farcical! Four of us got there first and James the waiter said would we like to go to our table but we said no we would wait for our friends to get there. He just left us standing there so we made our way to the settees. The friends arrived very soon after and James came with menus – but only gave them to four of us and forgot to give the 2 men any! We had a voucher for the meals which included Procecco so we asked for this while we were waiting for our table and instead of using a tray he came with them 2 at a time which seemed very odd. At the table we had to move it out as couldn’t get in as so close to the adjoining table. The table had only been set with 2 side plates so we asked for the others and James came back with 3 more so one guest was still left without a side plate. The candles were never lit. James took our order for drinks (wine – which didn’t come until after we had finished our starters). The 2 men asked for real beer and was told by James that you didn’t do it – even though my brother-in-law had been there the week before and you did. They went up to the bar themselves and got the beer. Whilst eating the starters a waiter came with seasonal vegetables and potatoes which we had ordered with our mains!! He took them away saying this is what the kitchen had put out. We had to ask for bread several times to go with the starters and they eventually came when we had finished our starters! The starters were cleared away (well, most of it – the bread boards stayed on the table throughout the whole meal and were never cleared). Whilst waiting for our main course James came back with the menus for pudding!!! We informed him that we hadn’t had our mains yet. Throughout our whole time at the table we were never asked how our meals were, never asked if we’d like more drinks.
Such a shame – you have a beautiful place there. Several tables I noticed had complained last night – one even getting the Manager over. The staff are totally undertrained. No-one was over-seeing the dining-room. For the prices on your menu you would expect top notch service. As I said in my opening paragraph I can only describe it as totally farcical.
