Summer Holiday Events

The museum is running family fun activity days throughout the summer holidays, including Race to Build a Mountain where you can see how creative you get with foam blocks, shillies Lego and clay, show them how you make a mountain. Create your own miniature mountain bog habitat with plants and bugs at the Bog in a Box workshop. Explore 500-million-year-old creatures and create your own prehistoric fossil at Fossil Fun. Create a masterpiece at Big Wild Painting, using foot prints, animal tracks, plants and more.
Once Upon A Slime

Make your own free bug balloon with local author Fina Woodhead. She has written and illustrated a fabulous series of creepy crawly children’s tales, involving slugs, woodlice and other crawly bugs. Fiona will be at Bookends to sign your copies and help make cool slimy bug balloons.
Keswick Ghost Walks

Derwent Island House Open Day

Your adventure starts by canoe with a peaceful paddle across the beautiful lake to the mysterious little island. You’ll discover the realism of lives lived past and present on the island. Enjoy a 45-minute guided tour of Pocklington’s Georgian House, then explore the garden and the rest of the island at your leisure during your 2-hour visit to the island.
Keswick Agricultural Show
At: Braithwaite, CA12 5TD
When: 28th August

The Agricultural Society was founded in 1860 and is one of the oldest societies in Keswick. The aim of the show is to encourage improvements in the Breed of Stock, management of land and in the general promotion of agriculture. At the show, there are cattle, ponies, horses, dogs, sheep and poultry as well as an industrial marquee for home produce, handicrafts, art and crafts and a unique vintage display. Enjoy Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling fell races and children’s amusements. Plus there will be over 60 trade-stands to stroll around and find yourself a bargain.
