Canterbury Reach Lodge Retreat is one Darwin Escapes’ newest holiday destinations, offering luxurious lodges, peaceful surroundings and ideally located to explore the local area. I’ve pounded the (internet) streets to bring you the must-see events in Kent for August 2018!


family sunprinting workshop

At: The Beach Creative, CT6 5PT
When: 16th August. 11am – 5pm
Prices: FREE

Enjoy this fabulous event which runs as part of the Bayfest 2018! This is a drop in event, which means you can go along whenever it suits you and try out one of the oldest photographic methods and create your very own sunprinting! Materials are provided, but you are welcome to take along objects you might want to use to create your own print, things that work best include Lego (pretty good for everything), buttons, fresh flowers, jewellery and flat card shapes.


bayfest 2018

At: Herne Bay, CT6
When: 28th July – 27th August.
Price: Vary depending on activity/event

A fabulous month-long festival celebrating Canterbury City, filled with events and family fun! Soak up the various music tastes of the city at the Hele Bay Rocks venues, including The Rodney, The Hampton Inn and The Ship which will be showcasing local musicians in the ongoing competition, head to The Kings Hall at 7.30pm for the Final! There are craft days and family friendly activities, including the Sea Creatures Story and Craft at The Seaside Museum and the Adventure in Magic at Beach Creative. There are coffee mornings, balloon modelling workshops, jazz and swing events, along with classic motor shows to get stuck into at BayFest 2018, there really will be something for everyone! the greatest show: songs from hollywood

Enjoy some of the best sing-a-long songs from Hollywood classics, you will have a blast at this popular show! Featuring hits from The Greatest Showman, Frozen, Dreamgirls, Dirty Dancing, Shrek, Moulin Rouge and so much more that will have your foot tapping and signing right along with the amazing performers onstage. The spectacular cast includes talents individuals such as Gemma Atkins, from Wicked, Grease and Kinky Boots fame and Lucyelle Cliffe from Legally Blonde, Wicked and Les Miserables fame – you are sure to have your socks blown off at this night filled with music and dancing.

Howletts helps you come to face to face with life sized prehistoric creatures when you explore the twists and turns of the Woodland Walk. You’ll get transported back to the Ice Age and meet the majestic animals who roamed the earth during this period, including the giant sloth, the sabre-toothed cats and even the mighty mammoth just to name a few, you’ll find all kinds of amazing prehistoric creatures as you follow the walk and keep a lookout.


summer fair & dog show

At: Whitstable Castle, CT5 2BW
When: 27th August. 10am – 5pm
Prices: Free (donations welcome)

Enjoy a traditional British fete and dog show, with fabulous gift and craft stalls to stroll around, fun face painting for the children to turn into any animal they want, delicious strawberry cream teas on offer at the Tearooms, as well as a mouth-watering BBQ and a great Pimms Tent to discover and tease your tastebuds! The dog show will include all dogs registered by 10am that morning with the cost of £1 per entry, categories include Best Trick, Best Rescue Dog, Waggiest Tail, Cutest Puppy and Dog most like its owner (don’t forget your fancy dress for this one folks!). Have a wonderful day out!

Take the Canterbury Tales tour and pilgrimage from London to Canterbury while hearing 5 of Geoffrey Chaucer’s most famous tales, all under one roof, being guided by fabulous actors. Visit the Medieval Story Garden during the summer holidays, enjoy the Astrolabe Demonstrations, study Medieval medicine and become a healer or try your hand at Knight School and be knighted by a Knight Master.
