With two unique and wonderful destinations to choose from in Somerset, Darwin Escapes has the ideal place for an Autumn holiday away. The region has some of the best Halloween events in the UK and we’ve listed them below for you to explore!

Throughout October half term our own Cheddar Woods will be hosting a whole range of Halloween themed activities for all the family to enjoy! The Go Active team will be having arts and crafts workshops, fun pumpkin carving sessions and a fangtastic pumpkin trail where you will need to make a word from all the hidden pumpkins around our resort, as well as a Halloween trail to follow too!

Thursday 31st October at 6pm, head to our Bistro Restaurant for a Kids Disco where there will be a fancy dress competition and fun children’s games. There will be food on offer in the bar area, including pizzas and BBQ food, as well as themed cocktails! Pop out to the terrace area around 9pm for Danny the Fire Performer and his spectacular show!


the curious case of Mildred Hester

Where: Hestercombe Gardens / Dates: 19th Oct – 3rd Nov / Times: 10am – 4pm / Prices: Adult £12.50, Child £10

Investigate the mysterious disappearance of Lady Mildred Hester and travel back in time to 1860 to become a detective, work out the riddles and crack the case. There is a family friendly version and a more challenging adult version to choose from.

Wookey Hole will have endless Halloween themed events throughout half term, there will be costume characters to delight all, including the Witch of Wookey Hole who will be giving out treats to the children! Make sure to don your best fancy dressed as the best costume will win a prize. Marvel at the annual Halloween Circus Show and the talented team, they will also be offering fabulous circus workshops for you to learn some of your own tricks too. Take the scary cave tour and visit the Halloween grotto, as well as being able to enjoy all the usual 20 attractions available at Wookey Hole.

Where: Cheddar Gorge & Caves / Dates: 23rd Oct – 3rd Nov / Times: 11am – 3pm / Prices: Adult £19.95, Child £14.95

Gough’s Cave is home to some famous literary figures this Halloween! The Cheddar detective duo are on hand to solve the mystery but they need help, unravel the secrets of the caves and find Dracula, Bill Sikes and Frankenstein’s Monster all hiding away. All the usual spectacular attractions will also be open to enjoy.

Explore the historic Dunster Castle this Halloween and follow the trail around the gardens, pass the wizarding skills tests, but always be on the lookout for Mythical Beasts around the corners. If you’re looking for a late night scare, opt for the spooky candle lit Ghost Tours.
