The Best Christmas Adverts 2018

Date: 15th November 2018
Author: Sarah Twist
Publisher: Darwin Escapes

With Christmas just around the corner, the retail high street stores have released their festive TV adverts, and we have them all in the same place for you to enjoy

The 2018 Christmas adverts have been eagerly anticipated, and John Lewis made everyone wait an extra week to see their fantastic ad (which inspired our own ad, check it out here!). Scroll through and watch all the festive ads from 2018.

2018 sees the return of Kevin the Carrot in two adverts for Aldi. One ad shows Kevin saving his family from an evil parsnip (which are a truly evil root veg, let’s be honest). The other ad shows Kevin paying homage to the branding giant Coca Cola, by driving a similar lit up lorry full of carrots, but then Kevin slides in the snow and the ad ends in an Italian Job style cliff hanger. Coca Cola and Aldi have teased a #SaveKevin conversation on Twitter, are we going to see the little orange root veg saved?

Releasing 3 ads this Christmas with the themed of Upgrade Your Christmas, Lidl are slightly poking fun at Sainsbury’s ads from previous years. The situations include a giant Christmas tree that doesn’t fit into the room, an orchestra for Christmas dinner music and (my favourite) where a man imports snow from the North Pole, all with the money they saved from shopping at Lidl.

Marks & Spencer

The 60 second ad showcases the ‘must haves’ from the M&S brand, including home, clothing and sprouts! It shows a few festive traditions, including singing along to a famous Bridget Jones’ Diary scene. Although it’s a Christmassy looking advert and it stars the amazing Holly Willoughby, it is a bit lacking in emotions to stack up with the other brands this year.

Called The Big Night, the ad was directed by Michael Gracey, who directed the amazing smash hit The Greatest Showman! The ad starts with a nervous little girl dressed as a star on stage singing, but then she shocks the audience with a fabulous performance of You Get What You Give, along with her festively dressed classmates. Keep an eye out for the little boy dressed as a plug, he’s the highlight of the ad for me!

The airport has brought back Edward and Doris Bair for another fantastic Christmas TV advert! The adorable teddy bears have been a fan favourite for a couple of years, this year we start off in their sunny retirement village in Florida. After a short skype call (complete with baby bears!) they begin to get homesick and travel home, doing a spot of Christmas shopping in the airport before surprising their family. A family filled Christmas advert, with the message of don’t be afraid to travel to your loved ones this festive season!

The Bringing Christmas Home ad was released fairly early on in the festive season and starts with Santa wearing skiing sunglasses and firing a flaming Christmas pudding out of a cannon. The energetic ad has so much going on it will leave you feeling with a slight head rush, there are two yeti’s showing up in a car with a cake, skiers launching themselves down the mountain and a man riding a Christmas tree and screaming ‘yehaw!’… because, why not?

Tesco have weighed in on the family debates and traditions around Christmas dinner, including what meat do you have? How do you baste it? Yorkshire puds or no? And the old age debate of sprouts or no sprouts? The main message is no matter your choice, you’ll find it all at Tesco.

John Lewis

Teaming up with Elton John, the two national treasures are tugging on the heartstrings this year, including Elton John singing his classic Your Song, which was covered by Ellie Goulding in 2010 for a John Lewis ad. The ad starts with Elton sitting at a piano and playing his song, the ad then works backwards, showcasing a lot of Elton’s career highlights, as well as personal moments including a nervous young Elton performing in school. The ad then finished with a very little Elton getting the piano for Christmas. It’s all about how a gift is more than gift, how this gift of a piano changed his life and inspired his whole career.

Here at DE we always talk about how a caravan is more than a caravan, about how the power of owning a caravan gives you the gift of friendships, the gift of your children learning how to swim and gives you the gift of time with your family. Take a look at our very own Christmas advert here and read all the reasons why a caravan is more than just a caravan.

That’s it ladies and gents, all the best 2018 Christmas TV adverts in one place for you to soak up the festivities and warmth of the Christmas season. Merry Christmas Ladies & Gents!
