Glastonbury Frost Fayre

Glastonbury Frost Fayre

Date: 3rd December 2015
Author: Sarah Twist
Publisher: Darwin Escapes
Park: Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa
Local Area

The annual Glastonbury Frost Fayre is fun for the whole family and a great way to kick off the Christmas season.

Run by the town council and going every year since 2011, the Frost Fayre is a celebration of peace and goodwill to everyone. If you have never visited Glastonbury before the Frost Fayre is the perfect time to do so! The quirky nature and friendliness of the town really shines through, as locals and tourists take to the streets to enjoy an extravaganza of seasonal magnificence.

Peace and Goodwill

The streets are lined with colourful tents and filled with goodies; from cakes, gluten free and vegan pies and pasties, to one-of-a-kind clothing, soaps and well-being essences. The lovely people of Glastonbury are welcoming and cheery, all concerned with everyone’s spiritual wellness. The Frost Fayre was opened by a band of drums, followed by a speech explaining how everyone is equal and can live peacefully, then ending with a minutes silence for those that have lost their lives this year. A beautiful tribute and message for everyone.

Glastonbury – more than the festival

Glastonbury high street

The high street buildings are colourful and the shops hold treasures all of their own: stunning clothing, lots of book stores, quirky cafes and funky jewellery stores… it’s fair to say that I was in heaven! The tents of the Frost Fayre were amazing and treasure troves of the quirky and unique. There was amazing food on offer, from glorious cakes and vegan delights to good old fashioned hot dogs and burgers – Hugo’s Dad’s breakfast for the day! There were beautiful handmade clothes on offer too, from crazy hats and scarves to colourful clothes, coats and jumpers, as well as beautiful handmade furniture. There were also some great attractions for the kids too, with some brilliant fair ground rides at the top of the high street and performers lining the street at designated ‘busker stops’. With everything from juggling, musicians and poem performances, the atmosphere was electric, while still managing to stay relaxed. There were 3 outdoor performance arenas, and a very cool, old school stage for the musicians and bands to perform too. There was also a very cute Santa’s Grotto for the little ones to see the big man himself!

Glastonbury market stalls

It was an amazing experience all around, I enjoyed it so much that I asked Hugo’s Dad if we could move there! To end our time at the great Glastonbury Frost Fayre we had some delicious sweet crepes from the street vendor, Hugo’s Dad opted for a white chocolate filling, and I chose the better option of Nutella… I ate it for too quickly to take a picture, oops! But if you ever get the chance to have one, do it! I did however manage to find some ‘Misfortune Cookies’ and Hugo’s Dad’s misfortune was ‘your face makes people sad’… I laughed until I snorted water out of my nose!

The Glastonbury Frost Fayre is an amazing event, it will make you want to go back year after year, I know I will be, so I’ll see you there!
