Carfest North 2018
A Fun Family Day Out for a Good Cause…
Last weekend, Bolesworth Castle in Cheshire played host to the now annual Carfest North event organised by self proclaimed petrol head Chris Evans.
This fun family festival is now an annual extravaganza which attracts visitors from around the UK. Contrary to the name, it isn’t all about cars with the musical performances now being just as big a draw as the cars themselves.
The 2018 event saw appearances from chart toppers such as George Ezra and Burt Bacharach, alongside a wide range of fun family offerings.
Darwin Escapes was lucky enough to get the opportunity to pop down last Friday to see if the event warranted the hype.
The event has evolved to be much more than just a petrol heads paradise, but the cars themselves remain a key feature of the daytime activities on offer. These were in evidence immediately upon arriving at the festival, with visitors treated to the spectacle of the Monster Trucks smashing their way around an obstacle course with rides being available to any guests brave enough to hop in one of these remarkable vehicles.
Some of the motoring industries top marques were in attendance, showcasing their offering and putting on performances to keep the crowds entertained throughout the day. One of the most popular stalls at the event was unsurprisingly that of Aston Martin who were showcasing some of their latest dream machines. This included the stunning DB11, Vantage and DBS models.
Jaguar Land Rover also went to a huge effort, offering guests the chance to ride on board some of their 4×4 models as they took on a challenging course which went over hills, mud and man-made challenges which showcased the performance of their vehicles, skills of their drivers and also provided fans with an adrenalin fuelled ride of a lifetime.
It wasn’t all about road cars though, with private collectors and motor racing teams kindly affording guests the opportunity to see Formula 1 and other high performance vehicles up close. These included a Honda F1 car raced by 1964 F1 World Champion John Surtees as well as appearances from British Drift Championship team Japspeed who wowed the crowds with their on-track heroics.
Talking of heroics; motor bikes were well represented too not least by Motorcross freestyle specialists from the Arenacross series who put on quite the spectacle.
A Treat for Foodies
Although the cars and music are generally the biggest draws to the festival, there is also an increasingly prominent foodies presence which now has its own dedicated area on site. The main stage in this section saw appearances from The One Show’s Angellica Bell as well as Great British Bake Off contestant Candice Brown.
Carfest isn’t just good for those who like to prepare food though, it is also great for those who like to consume it with a plethora of food stalls on-site. Those camping at the event are sure to put on a pound or two over the course of the weekend on account of the quality of the cuisine on offer, which includes traditional Fish and Chip stalls alongside slightly more unusual offerings such as the Greek Kitchen. Those with a sweet tooth also won’t be disappointed, with Krispy Kreme Donuts being just one of the household brands with a presence at the event.
Of course no British family festival would be complete with a stall which serves afternoon tea and scones. This was to be found in the vintage section of the show which featured stalls selling antiques alongside retro clothing suppliers and classic car enthusiasts.
The Evening Entertainment
The fun carries on long into the evening, with the sound of the sweet engines being replaced by chart topping music industry superstars.
Those in attendance on the Friday were treated to performances from present day favourites such as Razorlight and George Ezra as well as grandparent favourites Burt Bacharach and Status Quo. This really underlines the eclectic nature of this family oriented festival which truly has something for all ages and interests.
