An unmissible weekend of air stunts and displays in Bournemouth
An event so anticipated it even caused my barber to take a mid-haircut break to watch the show.
This weekend played host to the Bournemouth Air Festival, the UK’s biggest air show. This 4 day event showcased air displays all day and well into the night complemented by Bournemouth’s world famous firework displays.
Another year on and we’ve enjoyed another weekend of awe inspiring aviation based entertainment. The town enjoyed at least 3 of the 4 days with fantastic weather with Sunday being a disappointment to many. High cross-winds and low viability on Sunday meant that festival organizers had to cancel the majority of the days events. There was however still 1.5 miles worth of fascinating stalls to explore between the Bournemouth and Boscome piers. This teeming area had much to offer, from local delicacies to interactive displays from the armed forces.
A staple of the Bournemouth Air Festival is the ever inspiring Red Arrows. Ripping their way out of the clouds with surgical precision, the Red Arrows certainly didn’t disappoint with their iconic synchronization through the air. An exciting complement to the Red Arrows was the Royal Navy’s mock beach assault, which even included a Merlin Helicopter.
Saturday was certainly the day not to be missed. Gorgeous sunny temperatures ensured that Bournemouth played host to around 500,000 holidaymakers keen to soak up some summer sun. Some highlights of the Saturday included the graceful Tiger Army paratroopers who soared down from 6,000 ft to a perfect landing in Bournemouth Beach, The Great War display team who after weather difficulties last year were in Bournemouth for their first time this year and the Bristol Blenheim light bomber which provided a striking silhouette in the sky.
After the 10th year the Bournemouth Air Festival is set to return in 2018 from August 30th until September 2nd. Why not take a gander at some of our favourite pictures from the weekend below:
