august bank holiday in Cheddar

August 19, 2016

Set in the magical Mendip Hills, Cheddar Woods will be the perfect base to explore Somerset this August Bank Holiday. Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa is family friendly and fun environment, with a fantastic Go Active+ programme you will never be stuck for things to do. This August Bank Holiday there are plenty of things to do in and around Cheddar, here are a few of our favourite picks…

Mendip mower racing festival

When: 27th – 29th August

This wonderful, annual family festival, Mendip Mower Racing, has live music from local bands, a fantastic beer festival with real ales on offer including Cheddar & Bath ales available. With a fun family area for the kids to be entertained, where they can build dens, try the Segway experience, see some exotic animals, climb a wall, jump on the bungee trampolines or have a go at zorbing (wow!) as well as the toddlers have their very own toy library space to play in too, all ages are catered for! And don’t forget to watch the main event, while grabbing some food from the grub tent, and cheer on your favourite in the Mower Racing, and if its raining? Well rain makes the mower racing even more interesting (or so they say…)

cider & cheese tasting weekend

When: 27th & 28th August

Taking place at Puxton Park, which is full of summer events, the Cider & Cheese tasting is the place to tickle your taste buds in Somerset this August Bank Holiday. Drop into the farm shop at Puxton Park and taste the cider and cheese from all around the country (I do love cheese Gromit!), and take a look at their family friendly events calendar, including things like animal interaction days, circus skills, falconry and even disco days!

Weston’s sand sculpture festival

When: throughout the summer

This fantastic festival has been going for over 10 years, with a different theme for the sculptures each year, and this years theme? Making your dreams come true. Do you want to be a rock star? Or a footballer? Or a dancer? Well pop on down to Weston-Super-Mare’s beach, just a 30-40 minute drive from Cheddar Woods, and a jump on one of the strategically placed platforms around the impressive sculptures to grab a photo op! A great interactive day out at the beach where your dreams are turned into fantastic sand sculptures!

chalice well healing weekend

When: 29th – 31st August

In true Glastonbury style this quirky event is designed to leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. Set around the tranquil sanctuary of the Chalice Well, one of the Britain’s most ancient wells where for over 2000 years people have gathered to drink the waters to find peace and inspiration. You can enjoy massages, reiki and all kinds spiritual healing for you body, mind and soul.

Happy Adventuring!
