Always With Love Book Review
Hello my loyal Darwinites and welcome to another Darwin’s Book Corner!
In our last post the lovely Sarah Holmes told you all about the delightful Life With Cardigans, a fabulous book, and I hope you enjoyed! This month we are going to check out Always With Love by Giovanna Feltcher, a sequel to her bestselling debut novel Billy and Me, and what a sequel!
Always with Love is actually Giovanna’s fourth novel, as well as two novellas, so a relative newcomer to the author world, but still an outstanding pro! This was the first book I have read by Giovanna and I have immediately bought her previous three novels, completely won over as a fan!
Okay so enough gushing about my new found author crush, let’s talk about the book…
My quiet home life was miles away from Billy’s upbringing with his four siblings
“Forever only lasts for as long as it’s allowed to, until something else steps in and stops it from existing.”
“‘We’re so in sync’ Billy chuckles. ‘Are we?’ I find myself asking.”
If you haven’t read Billy and Me, don’t worry this book works wonderfully as a stand alone story and you are caught up with all the important information pretty quickly, without it feeling an ‘information dump’ too. The wonderful protagonists are Sophie and her, Hollywood hunk, boyfriend Billy Buskin, they are instantly loveable and totally relatable, having spent the past two years in the sleepy Rosefont Hill Village in Kent, we join them on their flight to LA. Sophie will be meeting Billy’s family for the first time in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, but she quickly realises she is very unprepared for the Hollywood life, the paparazzi and Billy’s mother. Giovanna captures the Busking family dynamic perfectly, as well as having Sophie’s insecurities and worries play out in a relatable and realistic way.
Sounds like we’ve both been a bit scared then…
“How can a relationship last anyway if it’s not built on the solid foundations of trust and honesty?”
“I’m also troubled about the outcome now I’ve started.”
“Wondering how to communicate what I’ve discovered about myself in his absence.”
Soon Billy falls in love with acting again and decides to stay in LA for work, leaving Sophie to fly back to sleepy Rosefont Hill alone, worrying about more than just the 5000 miles between them. Sophie now has a decision to make, whether her and Billy can overcome their differences for good, as not every love story has the happy ending. I really didn’t know which way this story was going to end up, it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time and I genuinely found it very hard to put down!
It’s about finding balance…
“I’m not going to be forcing you to live a life with me here if you’d rather be elsewhere…”
“I’m proud of the life I lead. I love it”
“I’ve needed to know that I’m unequivocally and unquestionably loved”
Giovanna Fletcher has an amazing style of writing, it’s warm and welcoming, it feels like you’re having a heart to heart chat with your long lost friend over a cuppa on the sofa! I love the vulnerability, honesty and effortless humour of the characters, it felt like coming home for me. I know I’m gushing but I swear it’s all true, her writing reminded me of a favourite author, Meg Cabot, who’s teen and adult books I devoured and loved, and I will do the same with the rest of Mrs Fletcher’s stories!
This is a must read for everyone, all ages and genders, book lovers will fall in love with the fantastic story, style of writing and adorable characters! My favourite quote of the whole book; “I’m proud of the life I lead. I love it.” It spoke volumes to me (and I did have a little blubber…)
Here’s to my next to Giovanna Fletcher adventure!
Happy Reading folks!
