You can’t always trust the British weather, so here at DE HQ we thought we’d give you a helping hand on things to do with your little ones on a rainy day! These activities can be done anywhere, so whether you’re at home or in one of Darwin Escapes’ 18 holiday destinations, you can create fun while the rain hits the windows.
When the weather is wet there is nothing more fun to do than gathering the family together and dig out the board games! If you’re staying at a DE location, the chances are there will be a selection of board games in your lodge for those rainy holiday days!
Why not bake up a storm while one hits the windows, make some delicious homemade pizzas, try some classic biscuit recipes, or go for the always popular corn flake cake (the only thing I can make!)
Gather the blankets and cushions on the floor, create a tent from a sheet and crawl in for the best story-time session! (Also, this way you can’t even see the rain!)
All you need is a pen and paper for hours of fun, try games including hangman, nought & crosses, battleships and even your own version of Pictionary! You’ll have hours of laughter with each game, and for the little ones a good educational game like hangman will help with spelling!
Move the furniture around, use the cushions for ‘stepping stones’ and have yourself a game of ‘the floor is lava’ in your very own living room! Make it more challenging with extra tasks, such as doing the whole course while hopping on one foot! Add props like a glass of water (or dry pasta) and see if you can get from one end of the course to the other without spilling any!
Use old magazines and photographs to create a fun reminder of a special time in a scrapbook. You can choose a theme such as pets, holidays, favourite books or family memories, and you will be sure to have fun cutting and sticking together!
Lay a sheet on the floor, dangle some fairy lights and let the kids strut their stuff on your homemade catwalk! They can dress up in all their fancy clothes (and maybe some of yours), crank the music up to really get into it and enjoy your fashion show!
All you need is some paper, colouring pens and an empty toilet roll. Colour on some windows, doors and pretty flowers, and hey-presto you can have your very own fairy house to keep!
How many activities are you going to try the next rainy day? Fun can be had even without the sun, whether you’re on holiday or not! Let us know via social media what activities you try on rainy days, we would love to see your fairy houses!
Have a Fabulous Rainy Day
