Darwin Escapes is here to help you find your epic this August in beautiful North Wales

With four locations in North Wales, Darwin Escapes has come up with all the activities you need to know about this August! So whether you are staying with us at Seaview Holiday Home Park in Flintshire, Talacre Beach Holiday Home Park near Prestatyn, New Pines Holiday Home Park in Denbighshire or Aberconwy Resort & Spa in Conwy, we will have a fantastic event near you!


Family Fun Days

At: Conwy Castle, LL32 8AY.

When: 27th July – 27th August. 11am – 4pm .

Prices: Adults £8.95 / Child £5.80 / Family £26.60

Visit one of Wales’ most beautiful castles and enjoy traditional Medieval games, including have-a-go archery and sword fighting, as well as being able to handle the stunning birds of prey and learning how these beautiful birds were used in Medieval times. Weaponry will also be on display for you to marvel at all the tools used back in the day.


Medieval Weekend

At: Conwy Castle, LL32 8AY

When: 26th – 28th August. 10am – 4pm

Prices: Adult £8.95 / Child £5.80 / Family £26.60

The stunning castle will come alive with characters from Medieval times for the weekend long extravaganza, you will get to see how the castle was run during this time period. Say a prayer with the priest in the Chapel and see how the Royals would have done it, visit the guard in charge of the prison tower and watch a traditional Welsh bowyer making bowls, with so much more to offer, don’t miss out on this fun weekend in Conwy.


Day Out With Thomas

At: Llangollen Railway, LL20 8SN

When: 10th – 13th August. 10am

Thomas the Tank Engine is back at Llangollen for a fun-filled event! Offering children the opportunity to take a ride with Thomas around the North Wales countryside, as well as meeting the Fat Controller and enjoying trips on other fabulous trains, both from Thomas’ world and fantastic ones from ours. There are plenty of activities, including Brake Van Rides, unlimited rides on both Daisy and Donald, as well as access to the Imagination Station which includes face painting, a Thomas DVD screening and a colouring & craft workshop. As well as a balloon modeller, live story re-enactments, a fabulous puppet show and fun story telling sessions.


The Great Big Tree Climbing

At: Erddig Estate, LL13 0YT

When: 24th August. 10am – 3.45pm

Prices: £18.50 per person. Booking essential

This event is ideal for those who crave adventure, and what better time to explore the adventurous side of you than Wales’ find your epic year! Climb to the top of the trees on the estate and take in the view of the 1,200 acre estate from the top. Experts will guide you up the trees, and help you use the ropes and harnesses needed.


Denbigh & Flint County Show

At: Holywell, CH8 7LP

When: 17th August

Prices: Free to enter

The events entertainment highlight is the White Helmets Royal Signals Motorcycle Display Team, who will be wowing with their amazing motor-stunts. Brand new for 2017 the fun and unique Vintage Section will be celebrating 100 years of Fordson and Ford Tractors, as well as 75 years of Jones Balers. Stroll through the display of stationary engines, tractors, cars, commercials vehicles and watch the working demonstrations of farm equipment. Make sure to check out the competitions, including a companion dog show, horticulture, fur and feather, light horses, show jumping and livestock. Children will love the Kidzone, with Punch and Judy shows, storytelling and other puppetry performances. Head over to the food and drink section for some tasty delights to tickle every taste buds and cookery demonstrations.


Guided Bat Walks

At: Chirk Castle, LL14 5AF

When: 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th August. 8.30pm – 10pm

Prices: £5 per person. Booking essential.

Take a night time tour around the 700 year old Welsh castle and meet the resident bat population. Learn all about their habitat, food and the enormous conservation challenge they face, as well as how you can help.


Medieval Fortress Weekend

At: Chirk Castle, LL14 5AF

When: 12th & 13th August. 11am – 4pm

Prices: Free Entry

Visit Chirk Castle and travel back in time 700 years to discover how people lived, what they ate, how they fought and dressed in a Medieval castle. The weekend will be one of family fun and Medieval madness, with living history encampments showing how they really lived, as well as craft demonstrations, have-a-go archery, combat armour showings and so much more. A fun Medieval weekend for all the family.


Summer Holiday Fun

At: Ruthin Goal, LL15 1HP

When: 1st July – 31st August. 10am – 4pm

Family fun throughout the summer holidays at the historic Ruthin Goal, including craft themed days, and art days where you can learn how to sketch like an expert and even days filled with storytelling of tales of the goal. A range of interesting and fun summer holiday activities for all ages.


Year of Legends Celebration

At: Greenwood Forest Park, LL56 4QN

When: 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th August. 10am – 5.30pm

Prices: Adult £15.50 / Child £14.95

Celebrate Wales’ epic past and present at Greenwood, dress your favourite legend, from Robin Hood to King Arthur, or even newer legends from Rugby or Football! What your favourite heroes come to life through storytelling sessions. Relax around the giant stones of Poetry Corner and hear the tales of Mabinagion, with the magical Snowdonia Mountain Range as the backdrop. Don’t forget to try out the new optical illusion station and become a real life legend yourself by being transformed into a real life Welsh giant!


Summer Knight School

The fantastic Knights of Ardudwy are recruiting this summer at Harlech Castle, why not drop in and test your skills, offering everything from sword fighting to archery. The perfect time to learn what it takes to be a true Welsh Knight.


Dragon Adventures

At: Harlech Castle, LL46 2YH

When: 23rd – 24th August. 11am – 4pm

Prices: Adults £6.50 / Child £4.20 / Family £19.30

Enjoy a fun packed family weekend with Alchemy Dragons and Flostsam the Fool at Harlech Castle! Take a stroll around the castle and meet baby and carnival dragons, don’t miss the procession and listen to tales about your new fiery friends! You will also be able to learn circus skills and make your own kite at the craft stations!


Rhyl Air Show

At: Rhyl Promenade, LL18 3AY

When: 26th – 27th August. 10am – 4pm

Oo and ahh as the impressive aerobatic displays will take to the skies including the world famous Red Arrows, and a whole host of exhibitions, trade stands, food court and onsite entertainment on the ground too! An event that draws tens of thousands of people every year, located along the promenade in a beautiful setting around Rhyl.
