What’s on in Bath in August 2017?


The historic city of Bath is always bustling with fun activities and events!

With so much going on in Bath we have the perfect place for you to visit this beautiful and historic city, our very own Bath Mill Lodge Retreat. Located just 2 miles from the city centre but surrounded by nature you will love this peaceful oasis, with a babbling brook through the park, air conditioned gym, luxurious lodges and The Brook Bar & Bistro all on site to enjoy.

Bath & Bristol Food Festival

At: Bath Racecourse, BA1 9BU

When: 12th – 13th August, 10am – 5pm

Prices: Adult £6 / Child £2 / Family £14

Do not miss this fantastic food and drink experience! Enjoy a fun day out at this stylish, well-equipped venue and visit the Festive Village which will be featuring the very best quality food and delicious locally sourced drinks from a wide range of stalls! (Definitely, try the Bath Cheese!) There will be something for the whole family at the festival with games and activities for the children to enjoy, as well as sports activity workshops on the racecourse.


Summer Holiday Pottery Camp

At: Crockadoodledo, BA1 6RP

When: 1st – 24th August, 10.15am – 12.45pm

Prices: £88 (4-day course for 7 – 12-year-olds)

These fantastic courses are designed for beginners to learn how to hand build a durable and functional pottery item. Learn how to wedge clay, make clay slabs, shape and attach clay, tidy up and finish with paint after they’ve been fired in the kiln. There are two choices of course, where you can make an elephant, heart ring dish and patterned cup or you can create a berry bowl and patterned pot. The price of the 4-day course includes refreshments during the days and your own set of tools to take home and keep.


Bath Folk Festival

At: Bath Abbey Churchyard, BA1 1LY

When: 12th – 20th August

Prices: Free to Enter

This wonderful annual festival is “bringing the folk tradition to the heart of Bath”. The 9-day festival celebrates the best of folk music and is ideal for musicians, dancers, music lovers and families! There will be intimate gigs, larger concerts, jam sessions, musical workshops, open mic sessions and delicious traditional summer food!


The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

At: The Egg Theatre, BA1 2AN

When: 24th – 27th August

Prices: Adult £12 / Child £8

Celebrating 30 years of youth theatre at Theatre Royal Bath, this production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at The Egg Theatre is a must-see. The retellings of Irving’s famous 18th Century spooky story, a tale of a New York village being haunted by the Headless Horseman. Cast members ages range from 12 – 18 and come from schools across Bath and the South West, you will witness some amazing young talent and enjoy a night out, seeing The Egg transformed into the haunting, leafy forest of Sleepy Hollow!


Kids Workshop: Unicorn Headband

At: The Makery, BA1 1RD

When: 25th August, 1pm – 4pm

Prices: £15 per child (suitable for children 7+)

The Makery is offering the chance to make a magical unicorn headband that your little ones take home and show all their friends! Very basic sewing skills required, and there will be lots of sparkly treats to choose from!


Open Family Fun Farm Day

At: Newton Farm, BA2 9BT

When: 28th August, 10am – 5pm

Prices: Free to Enter

A great family day out, with tractor trailer rides around the farm, lots of children’s attractions! As well as exceptional food and drink on offer, live music, artisan food stalls and farm related educational and information stands.


Family Events

At: No1 Royal Crescent, BA1 2LR

When: 11th – 25th August, 11am – 3pm

Prices: Prices vary depending on activity

A few events are taking place at this beautiful place in the city centre, with family Friday workshops where you can create a unique fabric square each, and the work produced will be joined together to form a stunning and vibrant hanging, with it featuring in an exhibition at No1 Royal Crescent! There is also a printmaking and sewing workshop, where you’ll use paint, stamps and thread to create your piece. As well as lots of other summer activities taking place at the breathtaking Royal Crescent.


Marvellous Monsters

At: Longleat Safari Park, BA12 7NW

When: 8th April – 29th Oct, 10am – 7pm

Prices: Adult £28.85 / Child £21.62 (day tickets)

A family day out at Longleat is fun all year round, but over the summer why not visit the giant animatronic insects and attend the hands-on bug sessions from the keepers! Longleat is celebrating the amazing world of insects and will be highlighting the softer side of these cute and creepy crawlies, and showing the vital role they play in keeping our planet alive with creepy crawly workshop and bug-themed films!


Summer Events

At: The American Museum, BA2 7BD

When: 1st June – 31st August, 10.30am – 5pm

Prices: Adult £13.50 / Child £12 / Family £31.50

There will be a wide range of fun activities and workshops at the American Museum. Including the Princess and the Frog, creating your own frog masks, tiaras and even dapper top hats! Create a piece of relief Art Deco work at the What a Relief workshop, using string, glue and tissue paper to build your designs. Live music from The Honey Cutters will also be throughout the summer, along with a Bugsy Malone inspired workshop, Fat Sam’s Grand Slam, where you can make fedoras, flapper headbands and watch the timeless classic in the Stables.


Sounding the Wood

At: Prior Park Landscape Garden, BA2 5AH

When: 1st July – 17th Dec, 10am – 4.30pm

Prices: Adult £7.70 / Child £3.80 / Family £19.40

Visit the stunning landscaped gardens and walk through to find the fabulous pop-up musical playground. The playground was inspired by the landscape and created by the adventure play company Touchwood, who made sure the ‘woodland instruments’ are nestled into the park and waiting to be discovered.


Summer Holidays

At: The Roman Baths, BA1 1LZ

When: 24th July – 1st Sept, 10am – 4pm

Prices: Adult £17 / Child £9.80 / Family £46

Join in on a summer full of family fun at the Roman Baths, including togas and tunics workshop to find out how the Roman’s really dressed. Piece together a marvellous mosaic at the All to Pieces workshops, create an Iron Age roundhouse at Before the Romans, and master a Medusa headband at the Minerva and Medusa workshop. Here Be Dragons

At: Victoria Art Gallery, BA2 4AT

When: 22nd July – 8th Oct, 10.30am – 5pm

Prices: Adult £4 / Child £3.50

This fabulous exhibition brings together the rich history of dragon lore through images created by some of the UK’s best children’s illustrators, including Quentin Blake and Cressida Cowell (the art works are for sale too!). Visitors will encounter a Dragon’s Den, crammed with creatures and copies of famous dragon tales to browse in story corner. Throughout the holidays there will be various workshops, including a Lego workshop, dragon mask making, dragon model making, dragon puppets as well as having the change to be a Knight or Princess with the Enchanted Castle workshop.


Stay with at Bath Mill Lodge Retreat and explore this beautiful city and retreat back to the tranquil surroundings of Bath Mill. With so much to offer this August, Bath is the place to be!
