Swanage Bay View Holiday Home Park is located in Dorset and surrounded by the beautiful Jurassic Coastline. With stunning sandy beaches and the open ocean just a walk away, it really is a sailors haven! Sam Whaley is a local sailor and has made a name for himself in the sport, representing his country at international events, and being selected for the British Sailing Team.
To help Sam on his quest to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Swanage Bay View has given him a free membership to our state of the art gymnasium! Giving Sam a place to train and keep on top of his workout all year round, and so close to his beloved ocean too.
Sam and his family moved to Swanage when he was 11 years old, where he spent his teen years growing up on the water, first sailing for fun but then turning competitive and entering races and competing internationally in 2011 for the first time. By 2012 San was representing Britain in international events, with his talents shining through as he quickly progressed in each event and soon establishing himself as one of the best sailors his age.
Sam’s talent and passion has taught him so many valuable life skills, from learning how to think under pressure, time management skills to budgeting and leadership skills. Sam even built his own boat at the age of 16 – how impressive is that!
Sam has accomplished so much at the young age of 20, from 3rd at the UK Laser Nationals, 8th in the Under 21 World Championships and 3rd at the RYA Youth Nationals 2017 in April. With these competitions having hundreds of competitors, it’s amazing and shows how hard Sam works, it also no wonder why he was selected in 2016 for the prestigious British Sailing Team.
Sam has a hugely busy year ahead of him, here are his upcoming events if you want to follow him around the world!
Keep up to date with Sam’s progress on his website, where you can learn more about him and his fantastic journey. Swanage Bay View and Darwin Escapes are proud to sponsor Sam on his journey to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics!
Good Luck Sam!
