Knowing what movies to show the little ones can be a challenge, you want something a bit spooky but not so terrifying that they don’t sleep for 3 weeks. And then once you have whittled out all the proper scary movies, which ones are the best? Well I’m here to help you, here are our top 5 scary movies for kids…

ParaNorman

paranorma

ParaNorman is a relatively new spooky story and is 100% child appropriate. The animated tale is about a little boy called Norman who can see ghosts, he gets picked on at school, but when he accidently invokes the anger of a spirit it’s up to Norman, his hapless friend and less-than patient sister to save the day. A spooky tale with plenty of laughs all the way through too.

The Addams Family

theaddamsfamily

A classic movie that’s a little spooky and a little funny, it may give the children some cheeky ideas for pranks too! The Addams family have a bleak look on life, but it’s also filled with love and acceptance, Uncle Fester is welcomed back without question and hilarity and double crossing ensues. A great family watch.

Casper

casper

There are a few choices if Casper is the one for you, from animated TV shows and TV movies, to a full feature length movie starring a young Christina Ricci. Ricci and her father move into a mansion where her dad thinks ghosts live, he’s not wrong, Casper and his three mischievous Uncles. Fun coming of age story, perfect for young children, pre-teens and tweens a like.

The Witches

witches

Roald Dahl’s tale is one that will have your children’s imagination running wild. The Witches is a story about little boy and elderly grandmother who travel to the British seaside for a short holiday, but encounter a conference of Witches who are plotting to turn all the little children into mice! A fun tale that will have your child searching for Witches down the street!

Hocus Pocus

hocuspocus

A true classic and one of my all time favourite movies. A kid lights a candle trying to impress a girl and his littler sister, and hey presto three sister Witches come back from the dead! You get to meet Binks the black cat, who was once a boy turned into a cat by the three evil-dooers. An early role for Sarah Jessica Parker and an iconic one for Bette Midler, plenty of music and laughs in this spooky tale!

An there you have the perfect movies after some trick or treating around the street, settle down with a blanket, get ready to giggle and scream with these fantastic 5 spooky tales for all the family!
