Welcome to the very first Health Cocktail! So as 2016 is just kicking off we thought to try and help everyone de-stress, take stock and be healthy in your everyday lives, not while just on holiday. We are going to cover everything to do with your mind, body and soul.
Now if you’re sitting there and thinking this is all a bit hippyish, you’d probably be right really, but hippy’s are happy and laid back right? So give it a go! If you’re always busy, rushing from work, to the shops and then home, to then cook dinner, walk the dog, put a load of washing in and then doing the dishes before finally crashing out in bed (whoa, I’m tired just writing that…) then we are hoping to help slow you down a little. Maybe just take 10 minutes out of the day to read these blogs and think a bit differently, slow down in life a little, be in the moment. Or if, like me, you struggle with actually moving, getting up and exercising, have no energy or get up and go about your day – you know all that stuff that’s good for you but always sounds so hard well, we want to help with that as well! And it’s not just about the physical, we want to help your soul feel better too, help you be more mindful and to always be kind to yourself. Like I said, this is about your mind, body and soul.
So we are going to start with an overview of Mindfulness – we will be hitting other topics every month and coming back to this, and covering as much as we can, wellbeing covers all sorts of topics! We will hopefully even have a fitness video or two to help you as well! (Sorry I got excited…back to mindfulness…)
So my lovely and loyal Darwinites (like your new nickname?!) if any of this is tickling your toes and itching your brain, take a read below, get started and mix your own Health Cocktail! (I make myself laugh…)
So Mindfulness, what is it? How is it gong to help? Do you have to sit there, in a robe, with your legs crossed, chanting ‘omm’ over and over? No you don’t, well you can if you like to, but you don’t have to. Mindfulness is being aware of this moment in time, so how are you currently sitting? Does your back hurt? Is your nose itching? Are you hungry? (never a question for me…) Being aware of how you feel, whether that is physical or emotional. Calmly acknowledging the thoughts, feelings and body sensations that take place, and then reconnecting with these simple moments in life. You can take 10 minutes out of your day to sit and see how you are feeling, what you are thinking and just to reconnect with yourself. You can practice it anywhere and the results can be life changing, you will have greater awareness of your own body, knowing how you feel and recognising your moods.
We will be covering lots of new ideas, including meditation, which experts now think may actually delay the ageing process (to be fair, have you seen Sting lately?! There may be some truth in that…)
