Now I know, like me, you may have over indulged in sweets and chocolates over the festive period, and Januray is seen as the worldwide ‘get healthy’ month. But I say healthy smealthy! (yes I did just make that word up…) We can still eat healthy, all the spinach and broccoli you like AND we can still have cake! So let me introduce you to January 2016’s Love Local the Cup Cake Café in Prestatyn, North Wales!
So Cup Cake Café is quite special to me, not only did I have some tasty, festive cup cakes this Christmas, but they also made some amazing Alice in Wonderland themed cup cakes for my Bridal Shower a few years ago, as well as a delicious 50th Birthday cake for my mum last year. So it’s safe to say I love the cakes from Jen and Helen at Cup Cake Café!
Read on and learn more about cake (delicious cake… if I say it enough times, one might appear on my desk…)
The Cup Cake Café happened by accident really, around 2007 Jen and Helen’s children were little(er) and they made some American style cupcakes for the children’s parties. Soon they were being bombarded (in a loving way) from friends and family for birthday and treat cakes, word spread locally and they were soon inundated with orders from the North Wales Coast. They found that the business was out growing their home kitchens, and in 2011 they opened their base shop, the Cup Cake Café on Prestatyn’s high street. Their cakes not only taste delicious, they also look fantastic too, Jen and Helen have taught themselves how to bake and decorate like the pros, the clever ladies! They are always trying something new and creating new flavours, and are mostly found working away in a cloud of icing sugar at the back of the shop with the creative juices in full flow!
The Cup Cake Café offers more than just amazing celebration cakes and cupcakes, they also offer great children’s parties in store too! Their parties are perfect for kids aged 5 and up, and includes decorating, fun and games, as well as a glass jar filled with sweets from the candy cart in store, depending on what package you chose for your little one! A party theming service is also available, where a party planner will work with you to establish a theme and the exact needs for the party. This can include a tailor made dessert buffet, personalised invites and thank you cards, personalised chocolate wrappers (what?! They do these?) face painting and even a milkshake station! You can literally just sit back and not worry about a thing, imagine how many Frozen themed parties they’ve done…
They also offer the Mad Hatters Afternoon Tea served for 4 people, with a cupcake twist where nothing is quite what is seems! The counter in the shop is always stocked with a lovely selection of cupcakes ready to go too, as well as samples of delicious sponge cake on the weekends! Jen and Helen also do fantastic window displays for the seasons, their Halloween displays are always the talk of the town. They work extremely hard, sometimes baking and decorating until 2am in the morning, before opening back up at 10am the next day. All with a smile on their faces, two genuinely lovely human beings, who are both exceptionally talented, and always try to fit you in when they can! A big hit locally, and down the coast, and the cakes are to die for!
Cup Cake Cafe have worked with Red Floral Architecture, who have done lots of celebrity weddings (ooo!), they worked with some corporate businesses too, including the beauty giant Boots Stores, along with energy company RWE Npower as well! They also do delicious, elegant and classy wedding cakes to fit all themes and occasions. They are growing local company, so keep your eyes peeled for Cup Cake Cafe when in Prestatyn!

A beautiful wedding cake
And this is the biggest wedding cake they have made, so far…
My next cake is going to a be a superhero themed one, now I just need to find a reason to be able to have it…Saturdays are a good reason right? Why not pop on over to Cup Cake Café’s Facebook or Website to see more delicious and themed cakes? And maybe order some for yourself too…everyone needs cheering up in January, try some cake!
And as Marie Antoinette may, or may not, have said ‘let them eat cake!’ (even if she didn’t, it’s still good advice!)
Happy Eating Ladies and Gents!
