Spending some of the festive season at your holiday home? Here are some great space saving ideas to deck your halls!

A holiday home is your home away from home, so decorating for the Christmas season is as exciting as any home! And although our holiday home and lodges are very generous in size, we still thought some space savings ideas would come in handy.

Read on and find some great festive decorating tips…

Trees

Christmas tree

Christmas trees get bigger every year, but I think they take up far too much space in my living room. A great alternative is a narrow tree, which still has the height of a normal tree, but will fit nicely into the corner of the room. Miniature and dwarf trees are also very popular space savers, great for tables, shelves or even adding some festive cheer to your window sills!

Walls and windows

Christmas window decorations

A great space saver is to use the walls, windows and window sills around your holiday home. Have mini-trees in festively decorated pots on the sills or have festive or plain pillar candles placed on a silver tray, adding elegance and a festive feel. Wall space is always good to use too, hand your Christmas cards with some festive pegs and string – ready made decs! Create a tree shape out of photos, decorate the mirrors and pictures with ribbons, hand drawn trees and baubles. Making decorations and festive cheer to your walls, and more room for presents!

Crafty, nooks & crannies

Christmas craft

The best advice when it comes to space saving decorations without compromising the festivity of your home is to fill the nooks and crannies, the bookshelves, mantel pieces and table tops! Stack ornaments and baubles in vases and dot them around your home to add simple decorations, use candles, paper lanterns with trees cut out and a small LED tea light inside (no naked flames and paper guys!). If you are feeling a bit crafty the list is endless of what you can make, for example make some small felt or paper Christmas trees, have some festive themed scatter cushions around the living area, or get extra Christmassy and create a tiny display village. Wrapped boxes provide a great base for some glittering, paper houses, and then create some trees by wrapping green paper into cones. A simple, fun and festive touch. Personally I found decorating the dinner table early adds to the festive cheer, get some Santa chair covers, Santa napkins and festive table cloths, all ready and waiting for the best meal of the year!

Decking & Outside Festivities

Don’t forget to show your decoration skills on the outside of your holiday home, spread the Christmas cheer! So the most obvious first, outdoor lights! Hang them from your roof, windows and around your decking area, lighting the way to your front door on the dark nights and adding that festive cheer too! Splash out and have an inflatable Santa and reindeer on your decking, or go for something simple and a cute reindeer light up or little tree lights. Or even have some festive themed flowers around the decking and doors to add a touch of colour too.
