Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week you will be aware that today is officially National Back to the Future Day. To celebrate this special occasion we thought it would be great to look at the past, present and future of holidays to see how things have changed in the past 30 years and to predict how a holiday might look in 30 years time! So without further ado, let’s stock up on Plutonium and get the old Delorean out of retirement and back on the road.
Our first stop is the 21st of October 1985, so let’s get the Delorean up to 88mph and travel back in time to see what holidays used to be like! (Cue loud engine noises, screeching tyres and a high octane adrenaline rush)…
A lot has changed in 30 years, back in 1985 we didn’t have super-fast broadband or even a personal computer for that matter. If you wanted to find your next holiday break you would have probably used Teletext or headed down to your local high street travel agent.
If you had decided to holiday in the UK, it is likely that you will have used an AA British Road Atlas to navigate your way to your destination.
Accommodation was completely different as well…. static caravans have come a long way in 30 years. The image below shows how a typical 1985 static caravan would have looked.
After the brief visit back to 1985, we’ve revved up the Delorean, activated the flux capacitor and set the destination of the 21st October 2015. As I previously mentioned so much has changed in 30 years, but at the same time nothing has changed… Let me explain.
“In the last 30 years so much has changed, yet nothing has changed”
In the last 30 years, as holiday makers, we have gone through an evolution not a revolution. So for example, instead of using an A3 road map, we use Google Maps. Instead of buying a postcard with “Wish You Were Here” written on the back, we upload pictures to social media and tag our friends with a simple status update. We now use TripAdvisor to look for reviews and reassurance instead of just believing the next door neighbours first hand experiences. So much has changed, yet nothing has changed.
Accommodation has most definitely evolved over the past 30 years. Static caravans which used to be cold, simple and small are now the complete opposite. Here at Darwin Escapes we have a diverse range of static caravans and lodges, available for ownership and rental, which feature more gadgets and high end features than most UK homes. After taking a look at our accommodation below, you’d be forgiven in thinking that these were from 2045 not 2015.
Luxury Lodges in Somerset – Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa
Cosy Lodges & Log Cabins in the Lake District – Thanet Well Lodge Retreat
Contemporary Lodges in Bath – Bath Mill Lodge Retreat
Although we feel that in 2015 Darwin Escapes is the future of holidays, it is now time to hop into the Delorean for one last trip…The destination is 21st October 2045.
So what does the future for holiday makers look like? Well in 2045 we’re going to make the bold prediction that we will be able to holiday on other planets, such as Mars. We’re so convinced that we have already started to create marketing material…
