Set in the lovely Cheshire countryside The Cheshire Cat Pub and Restaurant is a fantastic place to pop in for a pint or relax with a delicious meal, have a walk along the stunning canal and see the long boats, or enjoy a seat in the gorgeous beer garden.
The Cheshire Cat is steeped in history, built on an English Civil War battlefield between the Cavaliers and the Rounheads, the site is of great historic importance. Originally constructed in 1801, it is a beautiful building, surrounded by lush gardens. During World War II the government took over the building for administration offices and it was then left derelict after its use until 1970, when it was lovingly restored to reflect the long and very interesting heritage of the site and building.
“Great food Great atmosphere and pleasant and helpful staff I would recommend this to anybody”
“An excellent meal that we could not fault in anyway, would highly recommend and we hope to go back soon.”
“Fantastic pub. Food was delicious, good selection of ales and the service was faultless. Highly recommend.”
This country pub and restaurant oozes rural charm and rustic character, picking a spot by the roaring fireplace in the winter you will feel like Gandalf (minus the huge beard). Or, in warmer weather, you can make the best of the sunshine by eating in the stunning beer garden. The beautiful, picturesque surroundings are the perfect backdrop for the delectable food, wine and cask ales on offer.
The food the Cheshire Cat serve is the food they love themselves, they are totally trusted to do right by the traditional favourites of patrons, like Bangers and Mash. But they do like to delightfully surprise with dishes such as the new Scottish Mussels in white wine and parsley sauce. They offer an endless amount of choice from lovel lazy lunches, traditional Sunday roast dinners to the steak supper menu. The cellars are very well stocked with delicious wines and sumptuous cask ales to enjoy at the bar or in the gardens.
I struggled with so much choice, we all know what a foodie I am! I wish I could just have it all. The choice for me was between vintage pies, gammon, steaks or burgers, and there was the puddings. Oh my, the puddings! My sweet tooth is never satisfied and with wonderful choices like peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake, sherry trifle and Belgian chocolate brownie I was spoiled beyond words here. They even had my all time favourite (you all know what I’m going to say here…) sticky toffee pudding! If you’re nothing like me and you don’t mind sharing your food (I’m like Joey on Friends, I don’t share food!) then you can try the lovely pudding platter for two, a selection of mini desserts to taste and fight over. I went for the pork crackling to start, delicious gammon steak for main and the chocolate brownie for a change up on the dessert front! All gorgeous and filling food, could not fault it.
This was a stunning afternoon out, with glorious food and brilliant service you couldn’t fault. Cannot recommend The Cheshire Cat enough, pop along and try it out!
Happy Adventuring guys and dolls!
