What is the Swanage Carnival?

So it’s that time of the year again; the streets of Swanage will be lined with excited visitors from all corners of the globe for one of the biggest weeks that the South Coast has to offer.

If you’re not familiar with the Swanage Regatta & Carnival you may be asking yourself what is it all about? Well, the Swanage Regatta & Carnival is an annual week-long event, this year starting on Saturday 25th July. A huge arrangement of events and activities will fill the days and evenings until its close on the following Saturday 1st August. Every year features an exciting and unique theme and this year is no exception with the whole week centred on the theme of Superheroes!

At a risk of sounding overly cliché, the Swanage Carnival really does offer something for everyone; with around 100 different events and activities set up during the week from live music, activities for the kids, firework displays, aerobatic shows and much more! It’s the perfect opportunity to discover all that Swanage has to offer, as lots of local businesses and groups take part in the festivities.

Whether you pop down every year to watch the carnival procession or this is the first time you’ve heard about the event, join me as I guide you through what you can expect from this year’s Swanage Regatta & Carnival and let you in on a few of my top tips.

My top tips for the Swanage Carnival

  • Be sure to reserve your viewing spot early for the Carnival Procession as the roads get very busy. We recommend the hill next to the clock tower on the shore front
  • There’s a huge variety of places to eat on Sandpit field at carnival, enough to try a different delicacy each day.
  • The Aerostars Aerobatic Display Team are always prompt with their starting time. You shouldn’t need to jostle for viewing space for this event, however there is a fantastic viewing area just next to the carnival bar on Sandpit field
  • Temperatures are set to be around 20 degrees throughout the week so pack your hats and sun cream; however it has been known to change rapidly so do remember to bring a brolly just in case!
  • Stop by our caravan on Sandpit field and chat to the team about their top tips for the Swanage Carnival
